The Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations. Our functions are carried out independent of the police, Courts, government and political influences. The OPPs duty is to ensure the right person is prosecuted for the right offence and justice is served where possible. The OPP is committed to exercising our duty in accordance with the following values:
- Independence: We act in accordance with the law and public interest
- Ethical: We act with integrity and objectivity
- Open and Fair: We remain open and honest in our dealings with victims, witnesses and the community
- Accountability: We remain accountable to the parliament and the public through the reporting on our performance
